ONVIF to Host IP Interoperability Standards Panel at IFSEC

SAN RAMON, CA. May 8, 2012. ONVIF, the leading global standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, announced today that it will host an open panel discussion and networking event designed to raise the level of discussion and participation within the industry about the necessity of standardization initiatives for IP interoperability in the physical security industry. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at the upcoming 2012 IFSEC International trade show in Birmingham, England.

The move to ensure interoperability between disparate devices within a physical security system has gained significant traction in the market, with nearly 1,800 products conforming to the ONVIF specification. Led by Jonas Andersson, Chairman of ONVIF’s Steering Committee, the panel will discuss the current possibilities and challenges of today’s IP interoperability standards initiatives, examine the influence and impact of standards on the market and look ahead to the future of these initiatives in the market.

Andersson will be joined by panelists Gary Wong, Senior Research Analyst, Video Surveillance amp; Security Services, IMS Research and Ross Dorman, Managing Director for Chordell Solutions, an Oxford, UK-based systems integration consultancy. The discussion will be moderated by Mark Rowe, Editor, Professional Security Magazine. The panel will take place from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 15 in Toute Suite room of the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham.

In addition to the panel discussion, Andersson will be presenting as part of IFSEC’s Next Generation CCTV Theater, where he’ll discuss the industry’s growing adoption of its IP video specification and the expected benefits of ONVIF’s expansion into access control. This session will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 Wednesday, May 16 in Hall 5 of the NEC.

The pair of events at IFSEC continues to raise the profile of interoperability specifications in the industry. In late March, in conjunction with the ISC West trade show and conference in Las Vegas, ONVIF hosted its fifth successful demonstration to showcase interoperability between devices from disparate manufacturers. That event drew nearly 200 attendees and demonstrated technology from a host of network video firms that have incorporated the ONVIF specification into their product portfolios.

Further information about ONVIF conformant products, including the vendors and the conformant models, is available on ONVIF’s website: staging.onvif.org.
