Greetings from Per Björkdahl!

Greetings. I hope this finds you well and enjoying your summer. It has been a productive spring for ONVIF, filled with trade show exhibitions, new test tool and profile releases, our 12th successful Developers’ Plugfest, and we’re only halfway through 2015!

One of our biggest accomplishments to date for this year has been the successful development and finalization of Profile Q, our newest profile that enables systems integrators and consultants to more quickly and easily configure and deploy ONVIF conformant devices and clients. Offering “out of the box interoperability”, Profile Q is the response to the market’s request for a faster, more straightforward way to deploy ONVIF. We’re very proud of the work our members have done on this profile, which, by the way, also offers additional network security features that are proving crucial for today’s systems. At the recent ISC West show in Las Vegas, where we hosted our Profile Q Quick Install Challenge, one participant connected a Profile Q device and client in a mere 19 seconds, showing how fast Profile Q really can be deployed.

Another milestone we are proud to have reached so far in 2015 was the release of our first ever Client Test Tool, which tests clients for conformance to ONVIF’s Profile S, G, and C specifications. The new test tool allows ONVIF to verify that the client has been tested with multiple devices and that the client meets conformance specifications. The new test tool specifications are currently available to members on the ONVIF website within the Developers’ Forum.

We hope to see you all at the IFSEC International meeting in London later this month where we will host the Profile Q Quick Install Challenge along with demonstrations of other ONVIF profiles. IFSEC International is always an exciting event to attend, as it brings together more than 30,000 of us in the physical security industry, including 650 manufacturers, suppliers and distributors, and more than 11,000 international visitors from more than 150 countries.

From all of us at ONVIF, happy summer and enjoy your holidays/vacation with friends and family.

Best wishes,
Per Björkdahl
Chairman, Steering Committee

Final Release of Profile Q Slated for Late June

The final release of Profile Q is scheduled for later this month. Profile Q has been in release candidate status for the past six months in order to provide the industry time to review the profile. Profile Q was developed based on feedback from the physical security community. It offers outofthebox
functionality for systems integrators and end users with an easy setup mechanism and basic device level configuration. Profile Q also supports Transport Layer Security (TLS). Support of TLS allows ONVIF devices themselves to communicate with clients across a network in a way that protects against tampering and eavesdropping.

ONVIF Releases First Client Test Tool for Profiles S, G, and C

ONVIF released its first Client Test Tool, which tests clients for conformance to ONVIF’s Profile S, G, and C specifications, in April of this year. The new test tool specifications are now available to members on the ONVIF website within the Developers’ Forum.

ONVIF’s Client Test Tool allows hardware and software-based clients such as video management systems, building management systems and physical security information management (PSIM) systems to be tested for conformance to ONVIF profile specifications. The Client Test Tool determines conformance to the mandatory requirements of Profiles S, G and C.

Previously, manufacturers needed to claim that their client worked successfully with a minimum of three individual profile devices in order to obtain a Declaration of Conformance. The new test tool allows ONVIF to verify that the client has been tested with multiple devices and that the client meets conformance specifications.

The Client Test Tool tests conformance to the mandatory requirements of Profiles S for video streaming and configuration, Profile G for recording searches and Profile C for door/access point control. The conditional specifications for each profile will be included in the Client Test Tool’s second release, currently scheduled for summer of 2015. New service releases will be introduced every six months to expand the test scope of the Client Test Tool and will address improvements in usability.

Technical Experts Gather at ONVIF’s Developers’ Plugfest to Fine Tune Interoperability

ONVIF hosted its 12th Developers’ Plugfest March 911 at Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. in Durham, N.C. With multiple testings of ONVIF conformant video, access control and edge devices, the Developers’ Plugfest included conformance testing for the Release Candidate of Profile Q, ONVIF’s newest profile, and testing of a draft version of Profile A, an
upcoming profile.

The March 2015 Developers’ Plugfest allowed member companies to verify their products’ ONVIF interoperability with other manufacturers’ products. This spring’s Plugfest included 21 companies and more than 30 attendees. Plugfest attendees logged more than 200 hours of total testing time during the threeday event, with all of ONVIF’s profiles tested for interoperability.

The ONVIF profiles tested were: Profile S, for IPbased video systems; Profile C for IPbased access control; and Profile G for edge storage and retrieval. Attendees tested the Release Candidate for Profile Q for easy installation and advanced security features, along with a draft version of Profile A for advanced physical access control features, as well. Interoperability tests were conducted between a device and a client supporting both Profile S & G, as well as across profiles. ONVIF’s next Developers’ Plugfest will be held in China, November 1113, 2015.

ONVIF also held its working group meetings concurrent with March’s Plugfest in Durham, N.C. Forty active members from 17 companies participated in the fourday agenda, giving members the chance to interact within various working groups.
